SAFER workshop during European Maritime Day 2019

Aim To discuss the potential that adoption of new technologies (i.e the application of the Industry 4.0 concept) and transnational cooperation have on improving the performance of this strategic sector.

SAFER project organises a workshop within the European Maritime Day (EMD) 2019, that this year takes place in Lisbon on 16-17 May. Titled 'Seafood as key sector for Blue Growth in the EU Regions' and thanks to the coordination of SAFER partner Forum Oceano, the main focus of the workshop will be on innovation and how technologies and cooperation can contribute to increase it as an effective way to improve the competitiveness and performance of the seafood sector, considered as key for the blue growth of EU regions.

Speakers on the day include: Jose Manuel San Emeterio (Project Leader, ERNACT); Björgolfur Hávardsson (Innovation Manager, NCE Seafood Innovation Cluster); Maria Barbosa (Director AlgaePARC, Professor in Microalgal Biotechnology, Wageningen University); Valentin Moldoveanu (Manager FLAG, Delta Dunarii); Maria João Fernandes (National Delegate and Contact Point for Horizon 2020, ANI), and will be moderated by Ana Carla Garcia (Science Manager, MARE, Marefoz, Universidade de Coimbra).

About European Maritime Day

European Maritime Day (EMD) is an annual two-day event promoted by DG MARE since 2008, bringing together more than a thousand stakeholders from the different ranks of the sea economy.

This year EMD will take place at the Lisbon Congress Center on May 16 and 17, and will be co-organized by the European Commission (DG MARE), the Ministry of the Sea (Directorate General for Maritime Policy) and the Lisbon City Council; and the collaboration of Fórum Oceano - entity responsible for organizing the exhibit component of the event.

The 2019 edition is dedicated to blue entrepreneurship, innovation and investment, with a special focus on research and innovation issues for a healthy ocean. With a program that includes workshops, breakout sessions, business meetings, pitches and an exhibit component (EMD EXPO), EMD presents itself as a meeting point for European players in the economy of the sea, enhancing knowledge sharing, the emergence of new opportunities and partnerships, and serving as the stage for the presentation of projects, products and ideas.
